Can I use progesterone to control my PMS mood swings?

Absolutely! As with your migraines, you can use progesterone on regular doses throughout the day before PMS sets in, and right through until the time of menses, increasing your dose as the cycle goes on.

Doses vary: mild-moderate starting at 16-20mg increasing to 30-40mg; very severe between 6%-10% (100 mg maximum) dosage seems to be what is required according to the women in this category) to control the agitation, moodiness, headaches, etc. You will find after a few months of doing this that PMS will subside and you will be back on physiological doses from day 12 to 26 (usually 20-32mg).

As your stress levels diminish, the need for high doses of progesterone for the production of high cortisol levels (brought on by stress) is no longer required. Your body is back in balance.

Charting will assist you in recognising, over a period of time, when you will need to increase your physiological doses to accommodate your stress levels. Note, variations may be required every month. Based on observation, many women with PMS tend to ovulate on an average once every three months, explaining the fluctuation in their symptoms.
