How long does menopause last?

Menopause signals the end of your reproductive years. We are now seeing women enter menopause at an age far younger than their mothers before them. Increasing numbers of women are having anovulatory cycles beginning in their mid thirties where they continue to menstruate but they are not ovulating. Which bears out the fact loss of fertility is due to the disappearance of follicles and their eggs rather than age. Of the 300,000 follicles present at puberty from which eggs can be matured, ovulation rarely occurs when only about 1,000 eggs are left.

Once your periods stop and your enter menopause, you become infertile. You will never have another period. You move beyond the reproductive phase of your life into another. You have completed your childbearing years, and now have the opportunity to pursue those things that will facilitate a deeper level of self-discovery. Menopause is a time to start putting YOU first for a change! It can be the best years of your life, see our chapter on ‘The Spiritual Side of Progesterone’.
