I am 48 and have been on progesterone creme for 4 months with incredible results!
Hi Catherine,
I am 48 and have been on the creme for 4 months with incredible results! I went from having very heavy periods with clots to a very scant period last month and no period at all this month. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I am feeling fabulous…libido is restored, no more mood swings, etc. etc. Wow!
Do I continue creme as usual? Or should I reduce usage. Or could I be in menopause? I have had premenopause symptoms for ten years.
Thanks,
Nancy
Dear Nancy,
It’s always a pleasure to read this sort of ‘positive’ feedback. It provides balance to the bulk of our emails each week depicting women in hormonal crisis.
The transition from heavy periods (passing clots) to scant bleeds suggests progesterone has quite likely opposed the action of estrogen on the uterine lining. It also appears to have resolved some of the more obvious signs of estrogen dominance (mood swings, loss of sex drive).
At age 48, given all the evidence, menopause [cessation of your monthly cycle] may be imminent. We know that the symptoms of fluctuating hormones, not always debilitating but certainly uncomfortable for some women, can continue on for about ten years prior to menopause. Officially, you’re “in menopause” when you haven’t have a period for twelve months.
Women, myself included, can expect to notice a change in our cycle in our mid to late 40s as our estrogen levels become erratic and begin to decline. Every woman’s experience during this transition into menopause will differ and yet, for the majority of cases, is considered to be quite normal.
Whether you’re taking too much or too little progesterone is best determined via a baseline investigation using saliva testing. Though the results speak for themselves here!
Just keep a watchful eye on how your body reacts. The best was to do this is graphically using a chart and/or by journalising your symptoms & dosage to determine trends, recognise over or under-dosing, record any changes you observe, and report these to your GP for his or her opinion and perhaps further investigation. Please note, downloadable charts are available when you purchase a copy of ‘A Woman’s Guide to Using Natural Progesterone‘.
Whatever’s working for you, Nancy, stick with it!!
