I have a very strong family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer on my mothers side.
Dear Catherine,
I have a very strong family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer on my mothers side (grandmother, mother, 2 sisters all have had cancer in their early 40’s and died). I am now 40 years old and have had genetic testing on BRC1 and 2 with negative results. I have a mamogramm once a year . But I suffer from PMS and am looking for some relief. A friend swears by the Happy Cream but I am frightened to put my risks any higher then they already are. Any advise?
Cheers,
Cindy
Cindy, I can understand your fear. Your family history makes us want to be cautious, but the BRC1, and BRC2 (short for Breast Cancer 1, and 2) gives you a bit of relief (ie., the fact that they are both negative).
Glad you have negative mammograns (though some folks even worry about this procedure being done). Dr. Lee, in his book ‘What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer‘ talks about the dangers of mammograms. Joe Mercola in his newsletter says the same thing. (Dr. Lee’s comments summarized): http://www.enotalone.com/article/3282.html; (Dr. Mercola’s comments): http://www.mercola.com/2002/feb/23/mammography.htm.
Catherine’s newsletter dated March 8th, 2005 included a preamble on the ‘quotes the research that is very impressive, showing the protective effect of bioidentical progesterone. Dr. Lee has written several papers, one was: Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science, 1998, Vol. 28, page 360, June. “Progesterone inhibits growth and induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells.”)
I would still try to practice protective preventative medicine, and use the progesterone. Look over the guidelines in Catherine’s excellent new ebook ‘10 Things You MUST Know About Natural Progesterone‘ as to how to get started. It really should be titled, ‘Progesterone Therapy from A-Z.’
A superb resource!
Best regards
Dr Bob
