Is it ok to put natural progesterone on my varicose veins?

Hi Catherine,

I have heaps of ugly varicose veins on my legs. I rub my cream over my legs most nights. I use 1 small spoon full night and morning. Is it ok to put natural progesterone on my varicose veins?

Thank you,

TuiS

Dear TuiS,

The idea is to apply progesterone cream directly on to vascular areas of your body where blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin. In this manner you avoid dumping progesterone in body fat.

Why avoid body fat? Well, because progesterone is a highly lipophilic (fat loving) molecule that is well absorbed through skin into the underlying fat layer. In fact, progesterone is among the most lipophilic of the steroid hormones. From the fat layer, the progesterone is taken up gradually by red blood cell membranes in capillaries passing through the fat, sweeping it along to progesterone receptors.

But if you’re after fairly immediate results you want to by-pass body fat and get progesterone directly into your blood steam.

This would mean the least effective areas to apply cream would be the fatty areas of the buttocks, stomach (unless thin), outer thighs and generally where there is a store of fat. Women who applied cream to their buttocks and fatty abdomen reported delayed results with progesterone for months on end probably because this fat-loving hormone accumulated in fat tissue, or their very sluggish circulation delayed the uptake.

Which brings us to the issue of varicose veins. Varicose veins occur when the valves in our veins malfunction. As we get older our veins can lose elasticity, causing them to stretch out. When that happens, blood that should be moving toward our heart may flow backward. Blood pools in our veins, and our veins enlarge and become varicose. The veins appear blue because they contain de-oxygenated blood, which is in the process of being recirculated. Varicose veins are a common condition, especially among older women, women being more likely than men to have this problem.

Logically it wouldn’t make sense to apply cream onto a part of your body that is already exhibiting signs of poor circulation.

If a woman has poor circulation, or poor lymphatic drainage, or is overweight where there may be low capillary density, the hormone’s effectiveness is slowed down. For this reason, it is crucial to apply the cream closest to the blood vessels where it can be transported around the body to latch itself onto receptor sites. In this manner you can be guaranteed relatively immediate bioavailability of this hormone.

Areas of the body that make ideal application sites include the palms of your hands and soles of your feet (assuming good circulation), vaginally if delivery method approved by cream manufacturer, inside your arms (not the armpit), inside your thighs, or apply directly onto your breasts. Any area that tends to ‘flush’ indicates blood vessels are close to the surface.

Other very receptive areas that respond to progesterone are directly over the ovaries, behind the knees, on the temples, back of the neck, back pelvic ligaments, joints and inside of wrists. A little dab under the eyes for gritty, dry eyes will work wonders. You will be amazed how it will help with pain management, particularly joints, knees, headaches, and stress points.

For optimal results, apply cream to different locations on your body each day. The larger the area of skin the cream is spread over, the greater the absorption. This rotation of application sites and regular, cyclic breaks from cream allows for rejuvenation of the progesterone receptors, which ensures you achieve and maintain the best results from your progesterone cream.

Oh, and the best time to apply cream is after bathing when your skin is clean and pores are open.
