Progesterone Stories – the importance of hormone testing.

Dear Catherine,

I want to share my story on how important it is to first check your hormones by doing a saliva test or blood test before trying to see if hormones help.

I’m 34 and I went to see an alternative health MD for symptoms that pointed to hypothyroidism even though my thyroid levels checked twice were normal. All my other lab work, including cardiac and neurology tests were normal. So the physician place me on natural thyroid followed by isocorts (natural adrenal) and natural progesterone (too many things) and sent me into severe hormonal imbalance.

I ended up in the emergency room 3 times, ended up with a bladder infection and kidney pains, additionally I ended up with candida infection. I was shaky all the time. I couldn’t lay still but was extremely fatigued, sweaty but cold. I would have a temperature of 100F one hour and the next hour I would be 96F. I had many nights of insomnia where I had to resort to sleeping pills, which is not my natu! re to take pills not even for pain.

It took me about 3 weeks to recover from this nightmare with proper diet and rest. I had to take time off from work . And I think all of this could have been avoided by doing a simple saliva test.

Please be careful about taking hormones. All this happened to me under the medical supervision of a Doctor. Do your research and check your hormone levels first before trying anything out. You could end up worse than you were before.

I am currently awaiting the results of my saliva test, so that I may proceed with treatment from there. I did try natural progesterone cream 3 years ago and it was working well for me, unfortunately I wasn’t very compliant then in doing things regularly.

If someone would like to respond to me and share their story, I would like that very much.

Thank you.

Daisy
