What are some of the causes for heavy bleeding?
Use of estrogen replacement therapy, unopposed by progesterone, leads to build-up and thickening of the uterine lining usually resulting in the need for a curette (scraping of the uterus). Based on observation, curettes do not resolve heavy bleeding. In fact, the procedure may aggravate the situation down the track. And so a vicious circle is established.
Other reasons for heavy bleeding might include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, anaemia, obesity, and exposure to toxins and chemicals (fumes, paints, etc.).
Natural progesterone is of great value in these cases providing progesterone ratio levels exceeds that of estrogen, thus opposing the effects of estrogen. What we’re pointing out here is don’t fall into the trap of thinking that using high levels of progesterone alone will override these problems. You need to address estrogen dominance symptoms and the underlying causes.
