Women Supporting Women

We receive emails daily from women asking why is it that every time they try natural progesterone cream they turn into this angry, tempermental, somewhat depressed ‘other’ woman. They were under the impression natural progesterone was suppose to make them feel better, not worse!

Yet what they fail to understand is that some, but not all women, when they start applying natural progesterone cream, may experience episodes of discomfort and mood swings (referred to as ‘estrogen dominance wake-up’). These poor ladies - perhaps you fall into this category - are desperate for guidance, reassurance, but most importantly a better understanding of what’s actually happening to their body. We reassure our members that this exacerbation of symptoms does not last forever, and explain in non-medical terms what these stages represent.

Some poor souls are forced to go it alone (self-medicate) simply because their doctors refuse to sanction their choice of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. On the flip side, there are women who have their doctor’s full support. They’re out scouring the Web for elusive information on this subject matter, not just for themselves but to also share with their doctor. Here’s one such testimonial:

Judith, USA writes: “…The information on your website fits so well with all of the issues I have been struggling with over the past two years after completing what I thought was a successful trip through menopause (the end of my menses) at the age of 53. My physician is a friend and wonderful, and much of what you have on your website is right in line with approaches we are taking. I just started on the progestrone two weeks ago and would never have guessed that what I have been expxeriencing could be “estrogen dominance” — so comforting. I don’t look to natural progesterone as a panacea because I’m doing lots of other things and have begun taking it only because my physician has had such good results. I really have been leary, but my tests showed so strongly such very low levels of pregestrone that I was willing to start it. Your information will really be of tremendous value to me and Kyle (my physician) as we learn from all that you have learned.

You’ve got to smile when you see our sport stars like Lisa Curry-Kenny on the TV promoting her “drug of choice” to offset ‘estrogen dominance’ and ‘hormone imbalance caused by exposure to our environment’.

One would think this discovery happened only recently and that we need celebrities to inform us about it!

Not so. There were a struggling minority of women who took it upon themselves to approach our doctors as far back as 1996 [feels like almost a lifetime ago now!] claiming to have a cluster of symptoms that appeared to be ‘estrogen dominance’ and, in reading Dr. Lee’s resource material, we wanted to use natural progesterone replacement therapy to balance our hormones. We were laughed out of the surgery. Didn’t we know this rub-on natural progesterone cream was just a cosmetic?

So you see, friend, you can sometimes be on to a good thing and not necessarily get the blessings of your GP. Does that make your treatment of choice ineffective? Not at all. It may simply mean the mult-national drug companies would prefer that neither you (the patient) nor your doctor (who gets to decide which drug he prescribes) think outside the square, at least until they are primed and ready to pounce with their next ‘wave’ of hormone replacement therapy drugs that promise to be better than the last.
